Red Raiders Host Doane in a GPAC Contest Featuring Ranked Teams

Game Time... Northwestern College and Doane College will meet Saturday afternoon in a GPAC conference women's basketball game between ranked teams. The Red Raiders are 15-1 overall and ranked second in the NAIA while the Tigers are 12-6 overall and ranked 24th in the nation. Tipoff for the women's game is at 2:00 pm.

Scouting Report... Doane and Head Coach Tracee Fairbanks (9th season) are one of the hottest teams in the nation as they have won seven of their past eight games. The Tigers moved into the top 25 for the first time this season, coming in at 24th, and join four other GPAC teams in the rankings (NWC-2, Morningside-4, Concordia-6 and Hastings-9). Overall, Doane is 12-6 and are third in the GPAC with a 5-1 record.

The Tigers are the sixth best scoring team in the GPAC, averaging 72 points per game. They rank second in field goal percentage (46%) and are the fourth best rebounding team in the league. Defensively, they are third in the league giving up 64 points per game. They are led by NAIA All-American, junior Lindsay Anderson, who averages 18.8 points per game. The 5-8 guard is shooting 45% from the floor, leads the team with 28 three pointers and pulls down 4.3 rebounds per game. Senior Alissa Holland averages 10.4 points and a team-best 8.7 rebounds per game, second best in the GPAC. Holland, a 6-0 post player, is shooting 52% from the floor, 44% from beyond the arc. 5-11 junior Amy Fox joins Holland in the front court and averages 6.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Sophomores Hannah Helman (9.3) and Vanessa Munter (8.0) are the other top scorers for the Tigers. Point guard Brittany Lurz has 31 assists this season.

Last Time Out... The Tigers defeated Nebraska Wesleyan, 79-50, in league play on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Doane scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed en route to their seventh victory in their last eight games. They forced 25 Prairie Wolve turnovers and shot 52% from the field compared to 39% for NWU. Lindsay Anderson scored 16 points to lead three Tiger players in double figures. Alissa Holland and Amy Fox scored 14 points apiece.

The Red Raiders defeated USF on the road last Wednesday night, 85-60. Northwestern led from start to finish as they jumped out to a 13-2 lead. They led by 17 at halftime and by as much as 28 in the second half. Debbie Remmerde scored 28 points on 11/13 from the floor and 6/6 from the foul line. Crystal Algood and Randa Hulstein added 12 and 11 points each. Algood recorded the double-double with 12 rebounds and also blocked four shots. Miranda Boekhout added nine points, seven boards and eight assists.

Red Raider Notes... Northwestern is the highest scoring team in the league at 91.6 points per game. They lead the GPAC in field goal percentage (52%), three point percentage (44%) and field goal percentage defense (38%). The Red Raiders have made 147 three pointers this season, third best in the league. They are also second in rebounding at +5.

Remmerde leads the nation averaging 29 points per game. She needs just 37 more points to become the all-time leading scorer in NAIA D-II Women's Basketball history and just 49 more to become Iowa's all-time leading scorer at any collegiate level. It would be the fifth individual milestone set by a Red Raider player this season. (Amy Larson-1,000 points, Remmerde-50 points in a game, Boekhout-school's all-time leader in assists, Algood-school's all-time leader in blocked shots) Remmerde is tied with teammate Amy Larson with 57 three pointers, best in the GPAC. Larson is averaging 17.7 points per game and is shooting 45% from beyond the arc. Crystal Algood ranks second in the league with 7.6 rebounds and a GPAC-best 49 blocks. Miranda Boekhout (85) and Mandy Carr (80) rank first and third in assists. Randa Hulstein is averaging 8.7 points per game and has reached double figures in her last three games.
