NWC Women's Team Stays Perfect in GPAC; Defeats USF 85-60

The Northwestern College women's basketball team defeated USF by the final score of 85-60 in GPAC conference action. The second ranked Red Raiders improve to 15-1 overall and remain undefeated in league play at 5-0. The Cougars of USF fall to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Coach Woudstra's squad led from start to finish as they jumped out to a 13-2 lead and increased it to 29-8 later in the first half. The Red Raiders held their biggest lead of the half (33-10) before USF rallied to cut the deficit to 17 by halftime, 39-22.

Northwestern continued to roll in the second half as the Cougars never were closer than 15 points.

The Red Raiders shot 52% for the game and limited USF to just 31%. Three NWC players scored in double figures led by Debbie Remmerde with 28 points. She is now just 37 points shy of breaking the all-time NAIA D-II scoring record set by Brittany Smart (3,236) last season. Crystal Algood and Randa Hulstein added 12 and 11 points each. Northwestern held a huge advantage on the boards, 56-37, led by Algood who pulled down 12 to record the double-double. Remmerde added eight boards while both Miranda Boekhout and Becca Hurley added seven. Boekhout led the Red Raiders with eight assists while Algood totaled four blocked shots.

NWC will return home this Saturday, Jan. 12, as they host Doane College at 2:00 pm.
