Northwestern Hosts Mount Marty

Game Time...Sixth-ranked Northwestern plays host to Mount Marty in a GPAC volleyball match-up on Wednesday night at the Bultman Center. The Red Raiders have won seven straight matches and are in first place in the GPAC with an 8-0 record, 21-2 overall. Mount Marty has won two straight heading into Wednesday and is 2-6 in the conference, 9-13 overall. All-Time...Northwestern has won 27 straight matches and is 35-1 all-time against Mount Marty, dating back to the 1988 season.

Last Time vs Mount Marty...Northwestern hit .337 in earning a 3-0, straight-sets win over the Lancers on Sept. 17 in Yankton, S.D. Individual scores were 25-10, 25-9 and 25-14. 

Karlie Schut put down a match-high 10 kills and hit .529 in leading the Red Raider offense. Both Haley Chambers and Kaitlin Floerchinger had six kills and Jessica Van Beek added five kills in 11 attempts. Brooke Fessler put up 22 assists and led the Red Raiders with three aces. Both Alexis Bart (15) and Floerchinger (14) were in double figures in digs. 

Mount Marty was led by Bailey Kuchta with five kills as the Lancers were limited to a negative kill efficiency for the match.

Scouting the Lancers...Mount Marty is tied with Morningside for ninth place in the GPAC with a 2-6 record, 9-13 overall. They are an even 3-3 over their last six matches and bring a two match win streak into tonight, defeating both Morningside and Briar Cliff last week.

Candice Climer is in her fourth season as the Lancers' head coach and returns six starters and a total of 14 players off a 2013 squad that finished 10th in the GPAC with a 2-14 record, 13-20 overall. 

Mount Marty ranks 11th in the league in both kill per set (11.1) and kill efficiency (.158). They are eighth in the GPAC at 1.7 blocks per set. Caitlyn Illg and Amber Dythse combine to average nearly 12 assists per set as the team's setters. Illg is a two-time all-conference selection and averages 1.8 digs per set. Sierra Kloth leads the team with 2.9 kills per set and hits .208 as one of the team's outside hitters. Allison Cross is second in the GPAC in kill efficiency (.298) and ranks among the top 10 with 59 blocks. BreAnne Thege ranks second in the conference in digs (4.93 per set). 

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders have won seven straight matches and are in first place at the halfway point of the GPAC season with an 8-0 record, 21-2 overall. They are the highest ranked GPAC team, owning the sixth spot for the fourth straight week. Northwestern is 9-2 against team ranked or earning votes in the NAIA coaches' poll.

Northwestern is the top hitting team in the conference and ranks among the NAIA's top 10 in both kills (13.5) and hitting percentage (.279). They are ninth in the nation with 170 ace serves. 

Payton Samuelson is hitting a team-best .412 and leads the squad with 75 blocks. She has hit for double figures in two matches this season. Both Haley Chambers and Kaitlin Floerchinger rank among the GPAC's top 10 in kill efficiency, hitting .271 and .270 respectively. Floerchinger leads the conference in both kills (4.2) and ace serves (47). Brooke Fessler leads the conference and ranks fourth in the NAIA with 11.1 assists per set. Alexis Bart ranks third in the GPAC at 4.7 digs per set.
