Red Raiders Host Dakota Wesleyan

Game Time...Sixth-ranked Northwestern goes for its fifth straight win as they host Dakota Wesleyan in a GPAC volleyball match-up on Tuesday night. The Red Raiders are in a tie with Midland for first place in the GPAC with a 5-0 record, 18-2 overall. Dakota Wesleyan is 11th in the GPAC with an 0-5 record, 5-10 overall. All-Time...Northwestern leads the all-time series 26-1 and has won 26 straight in the season series. 

Scouting Dakota Wesleyan...The Tigers have dropped two straight matches and come into Tuesday night with an 0-5 league record, 5-10 overall. Since opening the year with a 4-1 record, DWU has dropped nine of its next 10 matches, including losses to GPAC foes Nebraska Wesleyan, Briar Cliff, Morningside, Midland and Hastings. They have two wins over Dickinson State and one win each over Valley City State, Johnson & Wales and Presentation. 

Lindsay Wilber is in her first season as the Tigers head coach and takes over for Eric Viney who departed after the 2013 season Wilber inherits a DWU squad that returns 13 players and four starters off a team that finished 0-16 in the GPAC, 7-28 overall. They were picked 11th in the GPAC preseason poll. 

DWU is averaging 11.8 kills per set and is hitting .188 as a team. Lauren Tadlock, a transfer from the University of Northern Iowa, leads the Tigers in kills (3.3) and is hitting .179 on the leftside. Mallory Jark puts down 2.4 kills per set and ranks fifth in the GPAC with a .275 kill efficiency. Michelle Van Epps, a transfer from Iowa Lakes Community College, took over as the team's setter and lofts up 9.8 assists per set. Maggie Stehly averages 3.8 digs in the backrow. 

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders have won four straight matches, all within GPAC play, since suffering its last loss in the final match of the Saints Invitational to fourth-ranked Park (Mo.). They have wins over Mount Marty, Doane, Dordt and Concordia since then to climb into a first place tie, along with Midland, in the GPAC with a 5-0 record, 18-2 overall. Northwestern is ranked sixth in the last NAIA coaches' poll released Sept. 23. 

Northwestern leads the GPAC in kills (13.4), hitting percentage (.280), assists (12.2) and aces (152) while ranking fourth in the conference in blocks (2.2). Kaitlin Floerchinger leads the GPAC with 4.1 kills per set and ranks fourth in the NAIA with 43 ace serves. Floerchinger earned GPAC player of the week honors for the second time this season for her play in wins over Dordt and Concordia last week. Karlie Schut puts down 2.8 kills per set and is hitting .229 on the rightside this season. Haley Chambers is seventh in the league with a .272 kill efficiency and averages 2.6 kills per set. Brooke Fessler leads the GPAC in assists (11.1), ranking sixth in the NAIA. Payton Samuleson leads the team with 65 blocks, sixth most in the conference and is hitting over .400 for the season.

Up Next...Northwestern will head to Fremont, Neb. to play 10th-ranked Midland in a GPAC showdown between ranked teams on Saturday, Oct. 4.
