Game Time...Fifth-ranked Northwestern goes for its 30th win of the season as they head to Briar Cliff for a GPAC volleyball match Wednesday night in Sioux City, Iowa. Match times are 6/7:30pm at the Newman Flanagan Center. Northwestern is in first place in the GPAC with a 13-0 record, 29-1 overall, while Briar Cliff is currently in sixth place in the GPAC with a 7-7 record, 18-11 overall. All-Time...Northwestern leads the all-time series 48-10 and has won the last 12 matches against the Chargers, including a 3-1 win in Orange City earlier this year. 

Last Time vs BCU...Kaitlin Floerchinger put down 17 kills in leading Northwestern past Briar Cliff 3-1 in a GPAC match-up played on Oct. 9. Northwestern won the first set 27-25 but the Chargers responded with a 25-23 win in the second. The Red Raiders closed with 25-21 and 25-20 wins in sets three and four. 

Northwestern hit .297 for the match, led by Floerchinger (.250), who also had 15 digs. Karlie Schut added 15 kills and 10 digs while Haley Chambers had 13 kills, hitting .407. Brooke Fessler put up 52 assists in the win and Alexis Bart recorded 15 digs.

 Briar Cliff hit .266 for the match and was led by Monica Boeding with 23 kills in 53 attempts, hitting .358. Jenna Berg was also in double figures with 13 kills and Erin Frank lofted up 55 assists. 

Scouting Briar Cliff...The Chargers have won two straight matches and come into Wednesday in sixth place in the GPAC with a 7-7 record, 18-11 overall. BCU began the year with a 6-0 record and are 5-2 during the last two weeks, earning wins over Mount Marty, Dakota Wesleyan, Saint Mary, Concordia and Doane.

Trevor Schirman is in his first season as the Chargers head coach, coming to BCU after serving as an assistant for University of California San Diego and UCLA. Schirman inherited a Briar Cliff team that returns five starters and 10 players off a 2012 team that finished tied for sixth place in the GPAC, along with Morningside and Nebraska Wesleyan, at 7-9. They were 20-15 overall. 

Briar Cliff is fourth in the GPAC in both hitting percentage (.221) and kills (13.4). They have 130 ace serves on the year, sixth best in the conference, and are seventh in the GPAC at 1.9 blocks per set. 

Senior Monica Boeding returns as one of the team's outside hitters, ranking second in the GPAC with 3.9 kills per set. She is hitting .193 this season while also ranking second on the team in digs (2.9). Sophomore Breanna Nogelmeier, an all-conference selection last year, is hitting .339 and has a team-high 88 blocks this year. Brooke Maguire ranks second on the team with 75 blocks and also returns as one of the teams middle hitters. Erin Frank returns as the team's setter and was a first team all-conference pick in 2012. She puts up 10.9 assists per set, second highest in the GPAC. Amy Frank averages 4.1 digs to lead the team's backrow. 

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders are currently  in first place in the GPAC with a 13-0 record, 29-1 overall, needing just one more win for its sixth 30-win season during Van Den Bosch's tenure. They have a two match lead over Midland with three to play in the race for the GPAC regular season title. Northwestern is off to its fourth best start in the program's history. 

Northwestern ranks fifth in the NAIA, second in the GPAC, with a .282 hitting percentage, averaging 13.5 kills per set. They are second in the conference in both blocks (2.2) and ace serves (186). 

Kaitlin Floerchinger leads the team with 3.82 kills per set, ranking third in the GPAC. The junior has hit for double figures in 22 matches and also leads the conference with 61 ace serves. Karlie Schut ranks fourth in the GPAC in kills (3.8) and is hitting .282 on the rightside. Schut has hit for double figures in kills in all but one match this year and ranks fifth in the GPAC with 37 aces. Both Haley Chambers and Kellie Goedken average two kills per set while Payton Samuelson averages 1.1 kills. Goedken (108) and Samuelson (89) lead the team in blocks. Brooke Fessler is third in the GPAC with 10.6 assists per set and is hitting .451 as the team's setter. Alexis Bart averages 4.3 digs per set in the backrow.
