Ranked Teams Meet Tuesday Night

Game Time...11th-ranked Northwestern heads to Sioux Center, Iowa, to play 20th-ranked Dordt College in a key GPAC volleyball match-up between ranked teams. The Red Raiders are 3-0 in the GPAC, 19-1 overall, while Dordt is also 3-0 in the GPAC, 11-2 overall. Listen live to the match at the following link: Listen Now!

All-Time...Northwestern holds a narrow 37-36 advantage in the season series dating back to the 1989 season. The Red Raiders are 10-2 over the last 10 matches against Dordt but the teams have split the last two seasons during the regular season. 

Scouting Dordt...The Defenders have won eight straight matches and currently tied for first in the GPAC with a 3-0 record, 11-2 overall. Since dropping two straight matches ot Tabor (Kan.) and Viterbo (Wis.), Dordt is unbeaten, including wins over ranked teams Grand View, Ozarks and Hastings in a conference match-up. They also have wins over both Sioux City teams, Briar Cliff and Morningside, in GPAC play. 

Chad Hanson is in his third season as the Defenders head coach and owns 49-32 record heading into Tuesday's match. He returns seven players off a 2012 squad that finished tied with Midland for third place in the GPAC with an 11-5 record, 22-12 overall. Hanson guided Dordt to a fifth place finish in his first season (2011) and finished 16-17 overall. 

Dordt is the top hitting team in the GPAC, hitting .291 overall and averaging 13.4 kills per set. They are second in blocks (2.2) and third in digs (16.7). 

Senior middle hitter Lindsey Floen is hitting a team-best .433 and averages 2.9 kills and 1.1 blocks per set, second most in the GPAC. Floen is a three-time all-conference selection. Freshman Brooke Wolterstorff has made quite an impact in her first year with the Defenders after a standout career at Western Christian HIgh School. She leads the team in kills (3.1), hitting .269 on the outside, as well as averaging 2.9 digs per set. Jenna Horstman and Meghan Krausman combine to average over 4.5 kills per set on the outside. Junior Kayla Gesink returns as the team's setter after earning All-American honors last year. Gesink lofts up 10.3 assists per set and is hitting .425, putting down 1.2 kills per set. Kayla Brokehuis returns as the team's libero and averages nearly five digs per set after earning all-conference honors last year. 

 

Northwestern News and Notes...The Red Raiders are currently tied for first in the GPAC with a 3-0 record, 19-1 overall. Since falling to Tabor (Kan.) in the second match of the year, Northwestern has rattled off 18 straight wins, including several over teams ranked in the top 25. They have wins over Mount Marty, Morningside and Doane in conference play. 

Northwestern ranks fifth in the NAIA and second in the GPAC with a .284 hitting percentage, averaging over 13 kills per set. They lead the GPAC in both ace serves (134) and blocks per set (2.3). 

Junior Kaitlin Floerchinger averages a team-high four kills per set, hitting .268 on the outside. The 2012 All-American also avearages 2.9 digs and ranks fifth in the NAIA with 44 aces. Sophomore Karlie Schut is fourth in the GPAC in kills (3.6), hitting .275 as one of the team's outside hitters. A second team all-league selection last year, Schut has 49 blocks and is third in the GPAC with 28 aces. Haley Chambers puts down 1.8 kills and is hitting .243 this season. Kellie Goedken leads the GPAC in blocks per set (1.2) and is hitting a team best .339 as one of the team's middle hitters. Payton Samuelson is hitting .312 and has 59 blocks playing opposite Goedken in the middle. Brooke Fessler is third in the GPAC with 10.5 assists per set in her first season with the Red Raiders. She is hitting .481 and averages 2.6 digs per set. Alexis Bart anchors the backrow with 4.6 digs per set.
