Five Players Claim All-Conference Honors

Five Northwestern College players claimed all-conference honors announced by the GPAC office earlier today and voted upon by the conference coaches at the conclusion of the season.

Lauryn Hilger earned first team honors after leading the Red Raiders in kills (467) and ranking third in the GPAC at 3.9 kills per set. The sophomore hit .223 and posted 29 matches with 10+ kills this season. Hilger, a second team all-conference pick last year, totaled 10 double-doubles (kills + digs) and ranked third on the team with 28 aces. 

Two players, Jessica Jensen and A.J. Horstman, were named to the second team. Jensen hit a team-best .251, ninth in the GPAC, and put down 2.9 kills per set. Also a second team selection last year, Jensen reached double figures in 19 matches this season and finishes her career tied for 17th all-time with 888 kills. Horstman enjoyed an outstanding freshman year for the Red Raiders, ranking ninth in the GPAC in kills (3.3) and hitting .200 playing on the outside. Horstman ranked fourth in the GPAC with a team-leading 46 ace serves and also averaged 1.6 digs per set. The freshman hit for double figures in 18 matches and recorded three double-doubles (kills + digs). 

Both Jessa Doom and Jillian Estes earned honorable mention honors. Doom lofted up 9.7 assists per set in leading a Red Raider offense that hit .220 as a team. The senior averaged 2.2 digs per set and served a team-best 96%. Doom, a two-time all-conference pick, closes her career in eighth place all-time with 2,539 assists and sixth in assists per set (10.5). Now a three-time all-conference selection, Estes ranked fifth in the conference averaging 4.4 digs per set. She ranked second on the team with 30 aces and closed out her career in 12th place all-time with 1,404 digs. 

Northwestern finished the season with an 18-17 overall record, earning votes in the final NAIA Coaches' poll.
