States Head Coach Kyle Van Den Bosch, “Northwestern volleyball has a rich tradition. My hope is to continue to build on what has already been established.” In his three years as the head of the Northwestern College volleyball program, Van Den Bosch has returned the Red Raiders to the national spotlight. Taking over in 2005, he led his team to a third place finish in the GPAC race (11-5), 24-11 overall. Van Den Bosch followed in 2006 in leading his team to a second place finish in the GPAC (15-1) and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament, their first trip since 1996. The Red Raiders went 1-2 in pool play and ended the season with a 33-6 overall mark. Last season, Van Den Bosch led the Red Raiders to a 31-12 overall record and their second straight trip to the national tournament. Northwestern advanced out of pool play with a 2-1 record and then proceded to knock off seventh-seed and hosts, Columbia (Mo.), to reach the Elite Eight for the second time in school history. Van Den Bosch was named GPAC Coach of the Year after the 2007 season. He has accumulated an 88-29 record with a win percentage of 75.2%. Van Den Bosch has coached two All-Americans and 16 all-conference players, including one GPAC Player-of-the-Year (Megan Meyer-’07) during his tenure. In addition, four athletes earned NAIA Scholar Athlete honors. Prior to coming to Northwestern, Coach Van Den Bosch was the assistant coach at MOC-Floyd Valley in Orange City for two years. Before that, he was the head volleyball coach at Calvin Christian School in Escondido, Calif. In his six years there, his team once reached the Final Four in the state tournament. Van Den Bosch was named coach of the year that same season. He served as the head volleyball coach at Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa, in 1997 and directed his team to a 42-3 mark en route to a state runner-up finish. Van Den Bosch also served as the assistant volleyball coach at Dordt College (Iowa) on two separate occasions. Van Den Bosch, a 1998 Dordt College alum, also serves as an instructor in the kinesiology department. He and his wife, Dawn, a NWC alum, live in Orange City and have two children, Jackson and Aubrey.
