Kellie Korver (Pella, Iowa), Heather Goehring (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Natasha Fernando (Corona, Calif.) have signed letters of intent to continue their volleyball careers at Northwestern College next fall. Korver will also play tennis for Northwestern.
Korver is a 5’10” outside hitter who lettered three years for the Pella High School volleyball team. She earned third team all-state honors after averaging 2.4 kills per game her senior year. Korver totaled 329 digs, served better then 90% and helped lead her team to a 28-9 overall record. She was named first team all-conference and earned honorable mention all-state honors as a junior. A member of the honor roll, Korver plans to major in education at Northwestern. She is the daughter of Keith and Chris.
“Kellie is very-skilled and her athleticism will add depth and competitiveness to our two outside hitting positions,” commented head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch. “Her passion for Christ and for the game of volleyball make her a great addition to our volleyball program. We are excited to have Kellie part of our volleyball family.”
Goehring played outside hitter and lettered three years for the Roosevelt High School volleyball team. Goehring was named second team all-state and 2008 Gatorade Player of the Year after leading her team to the South Dakota state championship. She hit .295 and totaled 286 kills, 325 digs and 47 ace serves her senior year. Goehring was named first team all-conference two years and was named to the state all-tournament team as junior and senior. She is a member of the National Honor Society and was named academic all-state. Goehring is the daughter of Sam and Marsha.
“Heather comes to us after playing on two state championship teams during her high school career,” commented Van Den Bosch. “She enjoys the game of volleyball and knows what it takes to be successful both on and off the court. We are excited Heather has decided to join the Red Raider volleyball family.”
Fernando is a 5’6” libero who played four years for Riverside Christian High School. She earned all-league honors and was named team captain as a junior and senior. Fernando totaled 182 digs and 35 ace serves in 2008. A member of the National Honor Society, Fernando plans to major in political science at Northwestern. She is the daughter of Millicent and Inoka.
“Natasha is a great fit for Northwestern and our volleyball program,” commented Van Den Bosch. “She brings tremendous energy and enthusiasm to the court and will add depth to our back row defense.”
