#18 Northwestern defeated #12 Morningside, 3-1, in a GPAC showdown of ranked teams. Individual game scores were: 30-18, 29-31, 30-26 and 30-19. The Red Raiders improve to 20-7 overall, 8-3 in the GPAC while Morningside drops to 10-2 in the league, 26-2 overall.
Northwestern was led by senior Megan Meyer who recorded a game-high 25 kills and added 10 digs. Kaitlin Beaver registered 11 kills and 14 digs and Hillary Hanno added 10 kills. Rachel Gosselink put up 54 assists and recorded 14 digs and Janna Bloemendaal totaled 13 digs.
The Red Raiders, who moved into a third place tie with Briar Cliff, trail Morningside by just 1.5 games and second place Hastings by a half game. They will play Doane in Crete, Neb. tomorrow (Oct. 20) night at 5:00 p.m.
