Northwestern and Dakota Wesleyan Take the Court Tonight in Volleyball

TONIGHT’S OPPONENT

Last time out, the Tigers fell to Briar Cliff in three straight, 30-18, 30-17 and 30-23. They hit just .066 in the three games and totaled 30 kills. Jen Miner and Maria Wieneke led the way with nine and eight kills, respectively. The loss dropped DWU to 11th in the GPAC race with a 2-5 record, 6-13 overall.

Kalie Whealy ranks fourth in the GPAC with a .367 hitting percentage. She has totaled 199 kills and 79 blocks this season. Maria Wieneke is the other top hitter for DWU, averaging 2.9 kills per game. Dena Kopfmann is second in the league with 43 ace serves and leads the team with 4.43 digs per game.

RED RAIDER NOTES

NWC lost to Dordt College, 3-0, in GPAC action Wednesday night to drop to 3-3 in league play. Individual game scores were: 30-26, 30-23 and 30-28. After an early NWC lead in game one, Dordt took control midway through the first game with a 10-3 run en route to the 30-26 win. In game two, Dordt grabbed the early lead only to have the Red Raiders come back and tie the score at 16. The visiting Defenders, however, outscored the hosts 14-7 the rest of the way to take a 2-0 lead in the match. In the decisive game three, it was Northwestern who stormed out to a 15-9 lead before Dordt went on a run to cut the lead down to one, 21-20. The Red Raiders upped the lead back to three, 25-22, before the Defenders rallied and scored the next four points for the 30-28 win.

Hillary Hanno led the Red Raiders at the net with 12 kills and one block. Hanno also went a perfect 11/11 in serve receive and led both teams with three ace serves. Megan Meyer and Bobbie jean Rich added eight and seven kills, respectively. Delainye Hardersen (13/13) and Kristin Kooima (9/9) went perfect from the service line with Hardersen recording one ace serve.

This is the second meeting between the two schools. In their previous match back on Aug. 28, NWC defeated the Tigers in three games, 30-23, 30-23 and 30-19.

COMING UP

The Red Raiders will host Nebraska Wesleyan tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 pm. They have just one game next week, a home date with Mount Marty, on Wednesday, Oct. 10 before another three-game road trip, beginning Oct. 17 against Briar Cliff.
