Red Raiders Fall to Dordt in GPAC Volleyball

The Northwestern volleyball team lost to Dordt College, 3-0, in GPAC action last night in the Bultman Center. Individual game scores were: 30-26, 30-23 and 30-28. The Red Raiders, ranked 16th in this week's NAIA poll, falls to 3-3 in the GPAC and 15-7 overall. Dordt improves to 3-4 in the GPAC, 22-6 overall.

After an early NWC lead in game one, Dordt took control midway through the first game with a 10-3 run which put the Defenders up, 20-13. Northwestern stormed back to cut the lead down to one, 23-22, but Dordt held on for the 30-26 win in the first game. In game two, Dordt took the early lead only to have the Red Raiders come back and tie the score at 16. The visiting Defenders, however, outscored the hosts 14-7 the rest of the way to take a 2-0 lead in the match. In the decisive game three, it was Northwestern who stormed out to a 15-9 lead before Dordt went on a run to cut the lead down to one, 21-20. The Red Raiders upped the lead back to three, 25-22, before the Defenders rallied and scored the next four points en route to the 30-28 win.

Northwestern hit just .059 for the match and totaled 38 kills in the three games. Hillary Hanno led the Red Raiders at the net with 12 kills and one block. Hanno also went a perfect 11/11 in serve receive and led both teams with three ace serves. Megan Meyer and Bobbie jean Rich added eight and seven kills, respectively. Rachel Gosselink served up 33 assists. Delainye Hardersen (13/13) and Kristin Kooima (9/9) went perfect from the service line with Hardersen recording one ace serve.

The Red Raiders will play two home matches this weekend as they host Dakota Wesleyan on Friday night and Nebraska Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
