NWC Volleyball Team Splits Weekend Matches

The Red Raider volleyball team  split their conference matches over the weekend as they defeated Concordia 3-1 but fell to Hastings, 3-0. They are now 15-6 overall this season, 3-2 in the GPAC.

Northwestern won the first two games against the Bulldogs, 30-26 and 30-20, en route to a 3-1 win over Concordia. It was the first home loss of the season for the Bulldogs. Northwestern lost game three, 30-21, and trailed by eight in game four before they rallied to take the decisive game, 30-27.

Randa Hulstein and Kaitlin Beaver recorded 14 and 12 kills, respectively, to lead NWC. Megan Meyer and Hillary Hanno each added nine kills and Hanno tallied a game-high six blocks and three ace serves. Rachel Gosselink posted 50 assists and Janna Bloemendaal added 18 digs.

In a showdown of ranked teams, 19th-ranked Hastings knocked off #14 NWC, 3-0, Saturday night. The loss snapped the Red Raiders five-game win streak and dropped them to 3-2 in the GPAC. The host Broncos led for most of game one and won it, 30-25. Northwestern led for most of game two until a late Hastings rally tied the score at 25. The Broncos then scored five of the next six points en route to the 30-26 win. They then finished off NWC in game three, 30-23.

Beaver and Hanno led the Red Raiders with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Bloemendaal and Karrisa Davelaar recorded 19 and 14 digs in the match.

Northwestern will return home for three GPAC matches this week. They host Dordt College on Oct. 3, followed by Dakota Wesleyan and Nebraska Wesleyan this weekend.
