Northwestern College athletes completed day one of competition at the 2017 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Johnson City, Tenn. Two relays, the women's 4x800 and the men's distance medley, advanced to their respective finals with their performance today.
The women's 4x800 relay posted the fastest time in Thursday's prelims and advanced to Friday's final. The team of Katie Bosch, Rebekah Muilenburg, Breanna Harthoorn and Katie Landhuis finished with a time of 9:19, nearly a half second faster than Taylor (Ind.).
The men's DMR finished third in its heat but posted the fourth fastest time in Thursday' prelims to advance to the finals. Tim Rose, Levi TeBrink, Peter Hollinger and Tanner Goetsch recorded a time of 10:10.46, six seconds in back of St. Francis, who clocked the fastest time of 10:04.
Jordan Strand and Calvin Korver both completed the first four events in the heptathlon this afternoon. Strand currently sits in 11th place with 2,509 points while Korver is 15th with 2,424. Events completed today were the 60m, long jump, shot put and high jump with the final three events, 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m run taking place Friday morning.
