The Event...The Northwestern track and field teams will compete in a meet hosted by Dordt College on Saturday, Feb. 4 in Sioux Center. Teams Competing...Several GPAC teams will be competing, including Briar Cliff, Dordt, Dakota Wesleyan, Midland, Morningside and Mount Marty, along with athletes from Iowa Western, Buena Vista, Dakota State, USF and Iowa Central.
Last Time Out...Northwestern athletes turned in seven first place finishes at the Dennis Young Invite last weekend in Storm Lake, Iowa. Matt Huseman (Sac City, Iowa) broke a school record and won the high jump, clearing 6-10.75, the top height recorded by an NAIA athlete this year. The junior earned GPAC field co-athlete of the week honors. Jeriah Dunk (Whitter, Calif.) won both the 55m (6.56) and 200m (22.8) and also finished fourth as a member of the 4x400 relay team. Brandon Hammack (Fresno, Calif.) finished in the top 10 in three events, placing second in the 200m, fourth in both the 55m and 4x400m. Kiley Murra (Schaller, Iowa) won the shot put with a toss of 47-09.25.
Brianna Hobbs (Kingsley, Iowa) and Krysina Bouchard (Henderson, Iowa) each won their respective events to lead the women's team. Hobbs won the 800m, meeting the NAIA provisional mark with a time of 2:19.4. She then teamed with Teresa Kerkvliet (Larchwood, Iowa), Sara Edwardson (Spencer, Iowa) and Dawn Gildersleeve (Elkhart, Iowa) to win and qualify for nationals in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:33.76. Both Hobbs and the rest of the 4x800 relay team were named GPAC track athletes of the week. Bouchard won the 400m with a time of 1:00.7, the seventh fastest time in the GPAC.

Last Year at the Dordt Invite...Northwestern College track and field teams turned in five first place showings and three records were set last year at the Dordt College Invitational. Charity Miles (Thedford, Neb.) and Dani Fry (Fairfield, Iowa) led the women's team by placing first in their respective events. Miles won the 3,000m with a new meet record time of 10:12.44, nearly 13 seconds in front of the second place runner. Fry took first in the shot put with a toss of 42-10.25. Three Raiders finished second, including Kara Den Herder, Stacey Dietrich and Dawn Gildersleeve. Den Herder finished second in the weight throw with a school-record toss of 51-08.5. She met the NAIA qualifying standard in the event. Dietrich placed second in the 55m hurdles, crossing the line in 8.59 and also met the NAIA qualifying standard. Andrea Larson finished fourth in the 55m hurdles and met the provisional qualifying standard. Gildersleeve finished second in the 1,000 with a time of 3:02.
The men's team was led by Jeriah Dunk, Brandon Hammack and Matt Huseman, who all took first in their respective events. Dunk won the 55m with a time of 6.49 and then placed second in the 400m with a time of 51.24. Hammack won the 200m with a school-record time of 22.44 and finished third in the 55m (6.54). Huseman took first in the high jump (6-04.75) while teammate Mark Mineart tied for second (6-02.75).
