Samantha Dowling (Alpena, S.D.) has signed a letter of intent to continue her basketball and track and field careers at Northwestern College next year.
Dowling is a 5’10” forward who played four years for the James Valley Christian School basketball team. Dowling is averaging a double-double this season, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds per game to go with 48 blocked shots. She earned all-conference honors as a junior and was named the Big Bo Classic most valuable player earlier this season.
“We are looking forward to having Samantha join Northwestern College as a student-athlete on our women’s basketball team” said head coach Chris Yaw. “Sam is a great young lady that has demonstrated character and work ethic in all that she does. She has played many roles on her high school team and has demonstrated her own abilities but also the desire to be an outstanding teammate. We are excited for Sam and for NWC to have her join us in the fall.”
A five-year letter winner heading into her final season this spring, Dowling has qualified for state the last three seasons for James Valley Christian. Dowling placed fourth and has the school record as a member of the 4x800 relay her freshman, sophomore and junior years. She also qualified for the state meet in the medley the last two years. Dowling has personal bests of 2:30 in the 800m and 5:46 in the mile. A member of the honor roll and National Honor Society, Dowling plans to major in Nursing at Northwestern. She is the daughter of Troy and Stacie.
“We are excited that Samantha will be joining the Northwestern College women’s track and field team next year,” commented head coach Scott Bahrke. “She is a very competitive runner who wants to improve every time out on the track. Samantha will add great depth to our middle-distance crew.”
