Teresa Scholten took first in the 1,500m run and Danielle Fry finished in the top five in two events in leading the Northwestern College track and field teams at the USF Last Chance Invite in Sioux Falls, S.D. This was the last opportunity for athletes to qualify for the NAIA track and field outdoor championships.
Scholten, a sophomore from Larchwood, Iowa, crossed the finish line in 5:12.5, just over two second ahead of teammate Allison Weeldreyer (Marion, S.D.) who finished with a time of 5:14.9. In the field events, Fry placed second in the shot put with a toss of 42-09 and once again met the NAIA qualifying standard. She also placed fourth in the hammer (148-11) and sixth in the discus (125-09). Sable Lems finished second in the discus (130-07) and Kara Den Herder placed third in the hammer (153-04). Jana Olson set a new school record in the pole vault, placing seventh with a leap of 10-07. Heidi Hildebrandt finished fourth in both the long jump (14-11.5) and triple jump (31-06.75) while Elizabeth Stevens finished second in the javelin with a toss of 116-04.
Nick Bray was the lone men's athlete to compete for the Red Raiders and placed fifth in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:34.56.
