The Event... Northwestern will send the track and field teams to Vermillion, S.D. to compete in the John Dalton Invite on Saturday, Feb. 6. The meet, hosted by the University of South Dakota, will begin at 10:00am and is scheduled to be done around 5:00pm.
The Teams...Several teams will compete this weekend, including USD, USF, Dordt, SDSU, Dakota State and Northwestern.
Last Year at the John Dalton...Two Raiders provisionally qualified for nationals and a third athlete set a new school record last year at the John Dalton Invite. A total of 23 Red Raider athletes placed in the top 10 in their respective events.
The women's team was led by sophomore Charity Miles who placed second in the 3000m with a time of 10:32 which met the provisional standard set by the NAIA. Angela Wiersma established a new school record and finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 10.87m. She also placed seventh in the long jump with a jump of 4.74m. Teresa Scholten placed fourth in the 600m, crossing the line in 1:46.83 in her collegiate debut. Emily DeWeerd broke the tape in fifth place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.87.
The Northwestern men's team was led by sophomore Logan Ogden who took first in the shot put with a toss of 14.96m. He met the provisional standard set by the NAIA. The sophomore from What Cheer, Iowa, also placed seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 13.12m. Kyle Sauter placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8:54. Lee Stover placed sixth in the 1000m with a time of 2:45.31 and Jordan Langer finished seventh in the 60m dash with a time of 7.33.
Last Week... Charity Miles and Kyle Sauter won their respective events and Kara Den Herder set a new school record as the Red Raider track and field teams competed in the Minnesota State Open in Mankato, Minn. last weekend.
Miles won the 5000m race with a time of 18:34.1 and qualified for the national meet in her second event of the season. She also qualified in the 3000m at the Dordt Invite. Breann Rozeboom finished 10th in the 5000m with a time of 19:33.8. Jenna Sorensen placed eighth in the mile with a time of 5:31.5 and Corrie Fautsch finished 10th in the 600m with a time of 1:42.1. Stacey Dietrich tied for ninth in the 60m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 9.81 seconds.
In the field events, Kara Den Herder set a school record in the weight throw with a toss of 46-06.75. She placed 11th out of 31 entries. Jana Olson turned in the other top 10 finish in the women's field events by placing ninth in the pole vault (9-02.5).
Sauter led the men's team with a first place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.38. Adam Potter turned in the other top 10 finish for the men's team by placing 10th in the
800m with a time of 2:03.5. Mark Mineart led the Raiders in the field events with a ninth place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-10.75.
Both 4x400 relay teams for the men's team placed in the top 10, finishing fifth and ninth respectively.
GPAC Performance List... The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) produces a performance list each week which outlines the current seedings for the upcoming GPAC Championships. Here are the Red Raider athletes currently ranked in the top 15:

Up Next... Northwestern will compete in the Dordt Invite next weekend in Sioux Center in what will be the final tune-up for the GPAC Championships on Feb. 20 in Lincoln, Neb.
