Two Individual Winners and School Record Set at Minnesota State

MilesCharity Miles (Thedford, Neb.) and Kyle Sauter (Alta, Iowa) won their respective events and Kara Den Herder (Sioux Center, Iowa) set a new school record as the Red Raider track and field teams competed in the Minnesota State Open in Mankato, Minn. The meet was held on Jan. 29 and 30.

Miles won the 5000m race with a time of 18:34.1 and qualified for the national meet in her second event of the season. She also qualified in the 3000m at the Dordt Invite. Breann Rozeboom finished 10th in the 5000m with a time of 19:33.8. Jenna Sorensen placed eighth in the mile with a time of 5:31.5 and Corrie Fautsch finished 10th in the 600m with a time of 1:42.1. Stacey Dietrich tied for ninth in the 60m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 9.81 seconds.

In the field events, Kara Den Herder set a school record in the weight throw with a toss of 46-06.75. She placed 11th out of 31 entries. Jana Olson turned in the other top 10 finish in the women's field events by placing ninth in the pole vault (9-02.5).

Sauter led the men's team with a first place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.38. Adam Potter turned in the other top 10 finish for the men's team by placing 10th in the 800mSauter with a time of 2:03.5. Mark Mineart led the Raiders in the field events with a ninth place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-10.75.

Both 4x400 relay teams for the men's team placed in the top 10, finishing fifth and ninth respectively.

Northwestern will next compete in the John Dalton Invite on Feb. 6 in Vermillion, S.D.
