Abraham Klafter (Norfolk, Neb.) and Elliot Rooy (Solon, Iowa) have signed letters of intent to continue their track and field careers at Northwestern College next year. Rooy will also run cross country for the Red Raiders in the fall.
Klafter is a 5’8” hurdler and middle distance runner who earned two letters while running for Norfolk High School. He qualified for state his senior year in the 300m hurdles and boasts a personal best of 42.1 in the event. Klafter also holds a personal best of 55 seconds in a 400m split. A member of the principal’s list, Klafter plans to major in chemistry at Northwestern. He is the son of Mark and Shirley.
“Abraham will have a positive impact on our team and the Northwestern campus community,” commented head track and field coach Nate Wolf. “I’m excited that he will compete for us next spring.”
Rooy is a 6’2” distance runner who earned six letters while running for the Solon High School track and cross country teams. He is a three-time state qualifier in cross country and qualified for state as a member of the 4x800 relay team as a junior. Rooy boasts personal bests of 2:01 in the 800m, 4:44 in the 1600m and 16:57 in the 5000m. The son of Janice Rooy-Ferguson, Rooy plans to major in biology at Northwestern.
“Elliot is a talented distance runner who will compete immediately for a top seven spot on our cross country squad,” commented Wolf. “He will provide quality depth for our distance crew in track. I look forward to him competing for us this fall.”
