Johnson Qualifies for 1500m Finals

Olivia Johnson has qualified for the finals in the 1500m run at the 2008 NAIA national track and field meet in Edwardsville, Ill. Johnson finished second in heat two and is seeded third in the finals with a time of 4:40.32. A total of 12 runners will run in the finals on Saturday, May 24. Kristen Holstad (Simon Fraser) recorded the top time in the preliminaries (4:40.30) while Jamie Canterbury (Azusa Pacific-4:23.61) and Bethany Carr (Olivet Nazarene-4:25.27) had the fastest qualifying times heading into nationals.

The women's 4x800 relay team finished sixth in their heat with a time of 9:32.77 but did not qualify for the finals. Relay members include: Delainye Hardersen, Laura Jacobson, Lori Wolf and Kristin Neth.

In the decathlon, Michael Ortmeier is currently in 11th place after five events. Ortmeier placed third in the high jump with a leap of 6-3.5 and finished 10th in the 400m with a time of 53.28. He placed 16th in the 100m, 14th in the long jump and 13th in the shot put. The final five events will take place this morning (Friday).

In addition to Ortmeier in the decathlon, Logan Ogden will compete in the men's shot put this afternoon. Tomorrow (Saturday), Kaitlin Beaver (High Jump), Jon Woehl (Marathon) and Johnson (1500 finals) will compete.
