Brian Gunderson

Assistant Coach/Throwers

Assistant track and field coach Brian Gunderson believes in order to be successful in the GPAC conference, Northwestern needs exceptional throwers. “We have been building our throwing program here for the past few years and have become a force in the GPAC,” Gunderson says. “We aren’t done yet. I want to see a conference championship come to Northwestern, and I want a national champion to rise out of this program.”

Gunderson has been coaching track and field at Northwestern since 2001. Since 2004, his athletes have qualified for nationals 27 times and earned All-American status six times. One of those athletes was named the 2005 Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Outdoor Track and Field male Athlete-of-the-Year.

An Academic All-American as a student at the University of South Dakota, Gunderson previously coached track and field for one year at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City. He and his wife, Sheri, have two daughters, Elena and Anna.
