Miles, Ogden Meet Provisional Standard; Wiersma Sets School Record

The Northwestern College indoor track and field season began last Saturday in Vermillion, S.D. and two Raiders provisionally qualified for nationals and a third athlete set a new school record. A total of 23 athletes placed in the top 10 in their respective events.

The women's team was led by sophomore Charity Miles who placed second in the 3000m with a time of 10:32 which met the provisional standard set by the NAIA. Angela Wiersma established a new school record and finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 10.87m. She also placed seventh in the long jump with a jump of 4.74m. Teresa Scholten placed fourth in the 600m, crossing the line in 1:46.83 in her collegiate debut. Emily DeWeerd broke the tape in fifth place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.87.

The Northwestern men's team was led by sophomore Logan Ogden who took first in the shot put with a toss of 14.96m. He met the provisional standard set by the NAIA. The sophomore from What Cheer, Iowa, also placed seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 13.12m. Kyle Sauter placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8:54. Lee Stover placed sixth in the 1000m with a time of 2:45.31 and Jordan Langer finished seventh in the 60m dash with a time of 7.33.

The Raiders are scheduled to run in the Graphic Edge Open this Saturday, Jan. 24 in Vermillion, S.D.
