Five Red Raiders Win Individual Titles at Wayne State Sunshine Invite

The Northwestern College track and field squads competed at the Wayne State Sunshine Invite yesterday and the Red Raiders turned in 18 top five individual performances, including five first place finishes. No team scores were kept at the meet.

Olivia Johnson highlighted the meet with a first place finish in the 1500m run, which met the NAIA qualifying mark once again with a time of 4:39.10. Laura Jacobson won the 800m run with a time of 2:19.47. Emily DeWeerd finished fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 27.12. The Red Raiders turned in three top five performances in the field events, led by Kaitlin Beaver with a second place finish in the high jump with a leap of 5-03.75. Amy Katsma finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 38-07.5 and Halee Wilken cleared 9-06.25 in the pole vault for a fifth place finish in the pole vault.

On the men's side, Michael Ortmeier won the javelin with a toss of 157-10. He later placed second in the men’s high jump, clearing 6-04. Freshman Logan Ogden won the shot put with a toss of 49-03.5 while teammate and fellow freshman Paul Lundgren placed third in the event with a toss of 44-08.75. Lundgren also placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 138-01. In the running events, sophomore Kyle Sauter finished third in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.55 and later placed fifth in the 400m hurdles at 57.75. Sophomore Luke Hofmeyer recorded two top five finishes as he placed third in the 100m (11.21) and fourth in the 200m dash (23.44). Kyle Blankers also placed in the top five in the 100m with a time of 11.27 (5th place) and Jameson Guthmiller finished fifth in the 200m with a time of 23.56. Steve Westerkamp won the open 400m with a time of 50.47.

Northwestern will next compete at the Doane Relays this weekend.
