Six Red Raider entries have completed their respective preliminary rounds at the 2008 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn. Senior Laura Jacobson (Galva, Iowa) reached the finals in the 1000m run with a third place finish in her heat. She crossed the finish line in 2:59.7 and is seeded fifth heading into the finals tomorrow, just 1.14 seconds behind the top-seeded runner. Freshman Olivia Johnson (Milford, Iowa) finished fourth in her heat and will be seeded fourth in the finals of the one mile run. Johnson finished with a time of 5:06.05, six seconds behind the top-seeded runner from Azusa Pacific. Charity Miles, a freshman from Thedford, Neb., qualified for the finals in the 5000m. Miles won her heet and will be seeded second with a time of 17:52. The finals for these races will begin tomorrow afternoon.
Earlier in the day, Emily DeWeerd finished third in heat four with a time of 9.46 but did not qualify for the finals in the event. She finished tied for 17th overall out of 30 runners. Dan Walhof did not finish in the 3000m run.
The NWC women's distance medley team finished fourth in heat two with a time of 12:15.59 and will advance to the finals on Saturday. The team of Laura Jacobson, Jess Regan, Stephanie Powell and Olivia Johnson is seeded sixth for the finals, less than .2 seconds behind the fifth place team from Milligan. The distance medley finals will be on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
Kaitlin Beaver will compete in the high jump tomorrow afternoon (Saturday).
