Three school records fall and two more athletes provisionally qualified for the NAIA national meet as the Red Raider track and field teams competed at the John Dalton Memorial Open hosted by USD on Saturday afternoon.
Emily De Weerd set new school records in the 60m dash, 60m hurdles and 200m dash to lead the women's team. De Weerd crossed the line in 8.29 in the 60m dash and 9.53 in the 60m hurdles. She placed 11th in the 200m dash with a time of 27.06. Stephanie Powell placed seventh in the 1000m with a time of 3:16.73 while Sara Hess crossed the line in 10:55.58, good for eighth place in the 3000m. Mary Maasen placed 10th in the one mile run with a time of 5:43.96. In the field events, Kaitlin Beaver and Hillary Hanno tied for ninth place in the high jump at 5-01.
On the men's side, Dan Walhof and Logan Ogden met the provisional qualifying marks in their respective events. Walhof won the 3000m with a time of 8:51.63 while Ogden finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 49-10.5. Kevin Krueger won the 600m dash with a time of 1:23.37 while teammate Ben Brown placed seventh with a time of 1:25.86. In field events, Kyle Blankers placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 22-03.5.
In other track and field news, Michael Ortmeier competed in the heptathlon last week at the ISU Classic and finished with 4,270 points which moved him into 11th place nationally.
The Red Raiders will compete at the Prairie Wolf Invite this Friday followed by the GPAC Championships this Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
