Track and Field Teams to Compete This Weekend

Event Time... The Northwestern College track and field teams will compete as a split squad this weekend as athletes will head to either the Iowa State Open (Ames, Iowa) or the BVU Indoor Track and Field Open (Storm Lake, Iowa). This will be the second meet of the season for the NWC athletes. Check out the following websites to view the results and meet information:

Scouting Report... Seven athletes will compete at the ISU Open at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa. Dan Walhof, Olivia Johnson, Charity Miles, Jess Regan, Laura Jacobson, Stephanie Powell and Luke Hofmeyer will run at ISU. Last week at the Bill Hillenbrand Open, three Red Raiders, Johnson (1 mile),  Jacobson (800m)  and Miles (3,000m) qualified for nationals in their respective events. Both Johnson and Miles set new school records in their events. Stephanie Powell captured first place in the 1000m run with a time of 3:13.03 last week. Jess Regan placed 11th in the 400m and 12th in the 200m. Walhof recorded two top 10 finishes last week in the one mile run (3rd) and 3000m (8th). Hofmeyer finished 19th in the 60m dash and 19th in the 200m dash.

A total of 16 teams, (8 men's and 8 women's) will compete at the BVU Indoor Track and Field Open, including the Red Raiders and five other GPAC teams. Halee Wiken established a new school record in the pole vault last week with a leap of 9-06. Rae Taylor and Angela Wiersma also set school records in the weight throw and triple jump, respectively. Taylor recorded a toss of 41-04.5 while Wiersma recorded a leap of 31-09.5. Lori Wolf placed fifth in the 1000m run and Sara Hess finished sixth last week in the 3000m. Emily DeWeerd turned in a strong performance in the 60m hurdles last week with a time of 9.83, good for seventh place. On the men's side, Jameson Guthmiller turned in the top performance with a 12th place finish in the 200m dash. Brock Jensen placed 14th in the 400m dash while Ben Brown and Kevin Krueger placed ninth and 11th, respectively, in the 800m run. Logan Ogden was seventh in the shot put last week.

Next up... The Red Raiders will next compete at the Dordt College Invitational next Saturday, Feb. 2.
