Mid-Week Doubleheaders Against Morningside, Simpson

Game Time...Northwestern College will play a pair of midweek doubleheaders, facing off against 10th-ranked Morningside in GPAC action on Tuesday, April 11 followed by a non-conference match-up against Simpson on Thursday. Game times for both doubleheaders are scheduled for 3/5pm.

The Mustangs had their five-game win streak snapped last time out, losing to Concordia 4-3 in the second game of a doubleheader played April 6 in Seward, Neb. Morningside has won seven of their last nine games and holds a one-game lead in the current GPAC standings with a 6-2 record, 24-7 overall. They are ranked 10th in the current NAIA poll, the only team from the GPAC  recognized in the April 4 coaches' poll.

Now in her 19th season as the Mustangs' head coach, Jones-Sitzmann is the winningest coach in program history, holding over 600 victories during her tenure. Jones-Sitzmann earned GPAC coach of the year honors for the fifth time after leading Morningside to both the conference regular and postseason titles. The Mustangs won the NAIA Opening Round tournament and advanced to the World Series for the first time, finishing with a school-record 47 wins. Seven starters and one starting pitcher return from last year's team.

The Storm have lost 10 consecutive games heading into a Wednesday night doubleheader against Wartburg prior to their match-up against Northwestern. They are 0-6 in Iowa Intercollegiate Conference play, 5-19 overall. 

Matthias, in his first year as the Storm head coach, takes over a team that returns four starters, one starting pitcher and 14 players from a 2016 team that finished second in the IIAC at 8-4, 31-11 overall.
