Hastings News and Notes...The Broncos are in first place in the GPAC with a perfect 8-0 record and own an 18-6 overall mark. Like most teams in the GPAC, they have not played many games of late due to the weather, last defeating Nebraska Wesleyan on April 14, 4-2 and 6-1. Hastings has won four straight and 10 of its last 11 heading into Saturday.

Troy Baker is in his seventh overall season as the Broncos head coach, spending two years at the head in 1998-1999 and taking over again in 2009. He returns seven starters and one of his top two pitchers off a 2012 team that finished tied with three other teams for fifth place in the GPAC at 10-10, 25-28 overall. They were picked to finish seventh in the coaches' preseason poll.

Hastings averages 4.8 runs per game and leads the GPAC with a .332 team batting average. Senior outfielder Felicia Graff ranks fourth in the GPAC with a team-best .419 batting average, scoring 18 runs and recording nine RBIs. She earned first team all-GPAC honors last year. Junior Haley Burge ranks ninth in the conference with a .396 batting average and leads the team with 14 RBIs. Candice Connolly is hitting .354 while both Molly Mullervy (.309) and Jackie Stickley (.308) are also hitting over .300.

The Broncos pitching staff sports the best team ERA in the GPAC (2.23) and is giving up 3.25 runs per game. Junior McKenzie Welchert, a returning all-GPAC pitcher, is 7-4 with a 2.46 ERA. Freshman Taylor Erlenbusch ranks second in the GPAC with a 10-1 record and has a league-best 1.84 ERA. She has 91 strikeouts in 76 innings pitched.

Northwestern College News and Notes...The Red Raiders have won  three straight heading into Saturday's doubleheader and are in third place in the GPAC with a 10-4 record, 20-17 overall. After winning two straight doubleheaders against Dordt and Concordia, Northwestern split with both Nebraska Wesleyan and Midland, followed by a sweep over Mount Marty Tuesday night in Yankton, S.D., 5-1 and 9-0.

Chris Nachtigall is in his second season as the head coach of the Red Raiders and returns after leading NWC to the GPAC regular season title with a 16-2 record. They finished 33-13 and ended the year earning votes in the NAIA coaches' poll. Northwestern was picked to finish second in the preseason poll.

Lindsey Remien leads the team with a .376 batting average and has hit safely in 11 of her last 12 games. The junior has a team-high five home runs and has 26 RBIs.
