The Northwestern College softball team dropped three games on the final day of the Tucson Invitational (Ariz.). The Red Raiders lost to Black Hills State (S.D.) 4-3, dropped a 10-3 decision to Calumet St. Joseph (Ind.) and then fell to Trinity International (Ill.) 13-4 in six innings. Northwestern is now 1-7 on the season. The Red Raiders led 3-2 after they put up three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Shelby Johnson had an RBI double a run scored to ignite the offense. Northwestern could not hold on to the lead, however, as BHSU scored the two go-ahead runs in the bottom of the fifth to en route to the win. Johnson finished 3-for-4 and Ashley Evans went 1-3 with a run scored. Jessica Bostwick picked up the loss on the mound, going 4 1/3 innings and giving up two earned runs on seven hits. Jessica Hooper picked up the loss against Calumet as the junior went six inning and gave up six runs on 11 hits. Hooper was the star offensively with two hits in as many plate appearances. Stephanie Van Duyn went 1-2 with two runs scored. In the final game, Northwestern opened up a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first off a home run by Johnson. Bostwick could not hold the lead, however, as Trinity International scored three in the third and six more in the fifth. They finished the game off in the sixth with four more runs off Hooper. Offensively, NWC had eight hits, led by Johnson (1/3) with three RBIs. Rachel Harris went 2-2 with two walks.
