Scouting Baldwin Wallace... The Yellow Jackets are the lone NCAA D-III team the Red Raiders will face at the Tucson Invitational. BWU plays in the Ohio Athletic Conference and, like most of the teams the Raiders will play over Spring Break, will be making their 2010 season debut in Arizona. Coach Tom Spencer, in his third year back as head of the softball program (he also served as head coach from 2000-02), returns 12 letterwinners and six starting position players off a 2009 team that finished with a 24-16 overall record. It marked the first time since 2004 that BWU won at least 20 games. He also gets his three top pitchers back, including a pair of 10+ game winners in sophomore Sarah Baker (12-8, 2.36 ERA) and junior Mackenzie Rohrbacher (10-7, 2.80 ERA). Offensively, the Yellow Jackets will be led by catcher Tanya Davis who earned both first team all-region and first team all-conference honors. She batted .382 with a team-high 40 runs scored and 16 doubles. Davis belted three home runs and drove in 39 RBIs. Mallory Kobak, an all-region outfielder in 2009, boasted a team-best .404 batting average as the leadoff hitter and set the single-season records with 59 hits and 34 stolen bases. Four other all-conference players return to the line-up, including Chelsea Saunders who hit .392 with 30 runs scored, and Katrina Resek who batted .302 with 18 runs and 18 RBIs.
