Shelby Johnson (Akron, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue her softball career at Northwestern College. Johnson is a four-year letter winner who plays catcher for the Akron-Westfield softball team. She earned third team all-state and first team all-conference honors after she hit .442 last season (2007). Johnson recorded 57 hits which included 11 doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs as she helped lead the Westerners to a second place finish at the state tournament with a 37-3 record. A member of the National Honor Society and class valedictorian, Johnson plans to major in mathematics at Northwestern. She is the daughter of Kent and Kathy.
“Shelby is a great all-round softball player,” commented Head Coach Melanie Mason. “She is a very strong hitter and a solid defensive catcher. We are excited to have her join our program.”
