The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) announced its all-conference softball team for the 2010 season and four Raider players earned the postseason honor. Northwestern finished 12th in conference play with a 5-19 record, 9-31 overall.
Rachel Harris (Akron, Iowa) was one of 18 players named to the first team. The junior outfielder led the conference with a .449 batting average, hitting safely in all but seven games this season. Harris also led the GPAC in hits (57), walks (26) and on-base percentage (.542) and tied for fourth in triples (4). She scored a team-high 26 runs and had nine RBIs. Harris, who earned second team all-conference honors in 2009, also played an outstanding centerfield with just three errors all season.
Two Raiders, Kami Kuhlmann and Shelby Johnson, were named to the 18-player, second team. Kuhlmann, a sophomore from Charter Oak, Iowa, ranked
second on the team with a .370 batting average and posted a team-best 18-game hit streak earlier in the season. She scored eight runs, totaled eight extra-base hits and 14 RBIs in 32 games played, joining the team after the conclusion of the Raiders national championship basketball season. Also the Raiders top pitcher, Kuhlmann led the team with four wins and a 3.53 earned run average. She struck out 55 batters in 113 innings pitched. Johnson, a sophomore catcher
from Akron, Iowa, hit .235 with seven extra-base hits and scored 11 runs this season. She ranked fourth on the team with 15 RBIs. Johnson, an honorable mention all-GPAC pick in 2009, threw out 10 base-runners from behind the plate.
Sara Curry earned honorable mention all-GPAC honors for the third straight year. A senior shortstop from Fort Collins, Colo., Curry hit .289 this season with 14 runs scored and a team-best 18 RBIs. Curry closed her four-year career ranking in the top 10 in several statistical categories including hits, triples and assists.
