The Northwestern College softball team earned the seventh seed and will play second-seed Morningside in the first game of the upcoming NAIA Region III Softball Championships. The Red Raiders are one of six GPAC teams that earned a spot in this year's tournament with the other two bids coming from the DAC Conference, #1 Dickinson State and #4 Minot State. The double elimination tournament begins Wednesday, May 7 and will conclude Friday, May 9 in the afternoon.
The Red Raiders finished tied for fourth in the GPAC regular season standings (15-9) and earned the fourth seed in last week's conference tournament. Northwestern went 2-2 at the tournament as they defeated Briar Cliff and top-seeded Concordia before falling to Doane and eventual champion, Morningside. Coach Mason's squad is 27-19 overall will play the second seeded Mustangs (37-10) at noon on Field One at the SYA Softball Complex in Sioux City, Iowa.
