A familiar face returns to the Red Raider softball dugout this fall to join Head Coach Melanie Mason's staff as an assistant coach. Dave Hulsart, who served as the Northwestern Head Coach for 13 years (1989-2001), compiled a 348-183 record during his tenure and has the most wins in the program's history. In 1997, Hulsart led his team to the national tournament and finished ninth with a record of 44-10. He led the Red Raiders to nine conference championships and earned conference coach-of-the-year honors in 2000. Hulsart was also named regional coach-of-the-year two years (1994 and 1997) and served as president of the NAIA Coaches Association in 2000. Despite his success on the diamond, Hulsart says it's the relationships with the players that is most important. "It's not about winning and losing; it's about the relationships you have with the players and the impact you may have on how they turn out in life," comments Hulsart. Hulsart, who owns the Dove Christian Bookstore in Orange City, was recognized this past fall for his outstanding service to Northwestern. He has been a fixture at the scorer's table and press box at many different Northwestern games over the years.
