The Northwestern College softball team will face Doane College at approximately 2:40 pm in an elimination game at the 2008 GPAC Softball Championship. The game can be heard via the Tigers Sports Network at the following link: Listen Live.
Coach Mason's squad, seeded fourth in the eight-team tournament, went 2-0 on the first day of the tournament as they defeated both Briar Cliff (7-2) and top-seed Concordia (2-1 in 10 innings). The Red Raiders then lost to Morningside (4-1) this morning to drop to the loser's bracket where they will face seventh-seed Doane, who is 3-1 at the tournament. The Tigers defeated Midland Lutheran in their first game (4-3), lost to Morningside (11-9), defeated Hastings last night in an elimination game (6-2) and just knocked off Concordia 11-8 in 10 innings.
The winner of this game advances to play in the GPAC Championship game(s) where they will face Morningside at 4:00 pm. The Doane/Northwestern winner will have to knock off the 3-0 Mustangs twice to win the GPAC Championship.
