Renee Maneman matched her career high with 17 points and became the program's all-time leader in assists in leading 18th-ranked Northwestern to a 79-52 win over Mount Marty in a GPAC match-up played tonight in Yankton, S.D. The Red Raiders earned their third straight win and improve to 6-2 in conference play, 11-5 overall.Â
Coming into the game four assists shy of breaking the career mark held by Miranda (Boekhout) Riediger, Maneman tallied the record breaker with 4:21 left in the first quarter on a feed to
Anna Kiel. The senior guard finished with 17 points, matching her career high, and 11 assists, earning her fourth double-double of the season. It was Maneman's seventh game with 10+ assists this season, 17th of her career.
Northwestern trailed just twice, both early, and used an 11-1 run midway in the first quarter to take the lead for good. A three-point play by Kiel began the decisive run another basket by Kiel capped the surge. Northwestern led 22-15 by the end of the first quarter and then extended its advantage to 13 after a three-pointer by
Sammy Blum with five minutes left in the half. The teams traded baskets for the rest of the half, that ended with the Red Raiders holding onto a 41-29 lead at intermission.
The Red Raiders put the game away with a 17-2 run at the start of the third quarter, sparked by three-pointers by
Kassidy De Jong, Maneman and Blum. Northwestern led by 28 (65-37) by the end of the third and led by 20 for most of the final 10 minutes.Â
Kiel matched Maneman with 17 points, going 6-for-7 from the floor, and
Darbi Gustafson contributed 12 points and seven rebounds. Both Blum and De Jong scored nine points each with De Jong pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. Northwestern shot 51% for the game, 36% (8/22) from the three-point line and 94% (15/16) from the free throw line.
The Red Raiders held the edge on the glass, 31-23, and forced Mount Marty into 18 turnovers.
Ali Kuca led the Lancers with 15 points, going 5-for-10 from beyond the arc.Â
