Game Time...A rivalry is renewed this evening as Dordt College comes to Korver Field to take on Northwestern for a women’s/men’s GPAC soccer doubleheader.

Scouting Report...Dordt comes into tonight’s contest with a 2-5 overall record, 1-3 in the GPAC. Since a 4-1 over Dakota Wesleyan to open league play, the Defenders have lost three straight matches, all by one goal. They lost to Doane (2-1) and then dropped a pair of 1-0 decisions to Mount Marty and Concordia.

Head Coach Dave Schenk takes over the program from former head coach Bill Elgersma and returns six starters from a 2007 team that finished 8-7-2. Dordt returns a pair of experienced defenders in seniors Craig Humphreys and Tim Walstra. Both two-year starters, Walstra has earned all-conference honors the past two seasons. Andrew Wubben, Siam Grobler and Darin Keizer return in the Dordt midfield after seeing time at the position the last two seasons. Grobler has scored two goals this season for DC. Phil Nywening, a freshman forward, leads the team with three goals scored. Jordan Huisken returns in goal for the Defenders and is allowing 1.3 goals per game.

Red Raider Notes...Northwestern carries a 4-5 record into tonight’s match, 2-2 in the GPAC. They have league wins over Morningside and Briar Cliff but have lost to Hastings and Nebraska Wesleyan. Last time out, Coach Swier’s squad dropped a 3-0 decision to the Prairie Wolves in Lincoln, Neb. After a scoreless opening half, NWU put three goals into the back of the net to earn the win. Northwestern recorded nine shots on goal and goalie Ben Schneider recorded six saves.

Junior forward Aaron O’Brien leads the team with 12 points so far this season. He has scored four goals and dished out four assists, both team highs. Mike Cookson and newcomer Tommy Tucker have scored three goals each while Andy Janssen and Aron Pall have netted a pair of goals. Sophomore Ben Schneider is 3-4 this season and is giving up 1.4 goals per game.

Next Up…The Red Raiders will host Midland Lutheran this Saturday, Oct. 4 at 3:00pm on Korver Field. They will then host Wartburg on Monday, Oct. 6 in their final non-conference match of the season. Gametime will be at 4:00pm.
