Northwestern men's soccer got a hard fought win over Morningside on Wednesday evening, 3-2, in double overtime.  The Raiders improved to 3-3 overall and start the GPAC season 1-0.  Coach Swier's team scored with two minutes to play in the second overtime, in the 108th minute of the match.

Aaron O'Brien had a game high eight shots, four on goal, and had two goals for the Red Raiders.  His second goal was the game winner, assisted by Mike Cookson.  Cookson had three shots, two on goal, one goal, and one assist.  Northwestern started the scoring in the 29th minute on Cookson's goal and nearly held the Mustangs scoreless in the first half, allowing a goal in the 44th minute to tie the contest.  The Red Raiders came out of the break with a lot of energy, however, scoring five minutes into the second half on O'Brien's first goal, assisted by Caleb Tilstra.  Northwestern had four shots on goal in the second half to one by Morningside, which tied the game again at 2-2, in the 75th minute.  Neither team scored in the first overtime, although Morningside had two corner kicks in the extra frame.  O'Brien sent the Raiders home winners in the 108th minute on a Cookson pass, giving Northwestern a 1-0 start in GPAC play and moving them to .500 on the season at 3-3.
