Northwestern (4-10-1, 3-7) takes on Doane College (8-8, 7-4) tomorrow in men's soccer. The Red Raiders have been eliminated from post season play, so this will be their final match of 2009. Northwestern has won three of their last five matches.
Freshman forward Jonathan Taves leads the Red Raiders with seven goals, while senior forward Aaron O'Brien is second with three. Six different Red Raiders have one assist. Jeff Lanser has made 73 saves and has allowed 23 goals in 15 matches this season, for a 1.51 goals against average. He has also posted two shut-outs. As a team, Northwestern has out-shot there opponents 196-195 this season and is trailing in the corner kick category 63-65. Northwestern has allowed a total of 23 goals this season and has scored 11.
Doane College has out-shot their opponents 243-194 this season and has a 73-50 advantage in corner kicks. They have scored 29 goals, but have allowed 27. Individually, Tom Heavey leads the Tigers with eight goals. Devon Strecker has six and Kyle Smith has four. Smith leads the team with four assists. In goal, Chris Kavinsky has started 12 games and made 48 saves and allowed 19 goals. He has a 6-5 record and three shut-outs.
Northwestern has three seniors on their team; Jordan Born, Aaron O'Brien, and Tyler Sytsma. All three have had outstanding careers and have contributed at the Varsity level for four seasons. This will be their final match as a Red Raider.
