Northwestern Defeats York 4-2 in Men's Soccer

Northwestern men's soccer won their first game of the season, 4-2 over York, behind two goals by Jonathan Taves. The Raiders also out-shot York 24-7 in the game and dominated the corner kicks 5-1. Northwestern had multiple shots from Taves (four), Jordan Born (one goal on two shots), Tyler Sytsma (two shots), Mario Garcia (two shots), Aron Pall (five), Aaron O'Brien (one goal on four shots), and Taylor Biggs (four shots and one assist). Goalkeeper Jeff Lanser had three saves and allowed two goals in 90 minutes in goal.

Northwestern got their first goal of the game on a penalty kick goal by O'Brien in the 9th minute. Born scored in the 31st minute on a pass from Biggs and Taves scored his first goal of the match three minutes later in the 34th minute. Taves scored the final goal for Northwestern in the 70th minute after York had closed the gap to 3-2, giving Northwestern a 4-2 lead with 20 minutes to play.

Northwestern moved to 1-3-1 overall and will open on GPAC play this week at home versus Morningside on the 16th.
