Raiders Sign Two Prep Athletes

Mario P. Garcia Jr., and John Andersen have signed letters of intent to continue their soccer careers at Northwestern beginning next fall.

Garcia Jr. is a 5'10" midfielder from Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Last season Garcia Jr. scored 13 goals and had seven assists. Garcia Jr. has been named an All-State Honorable Mention and Pine Creek finished 13-2-1 in the 2008-09 school year under the direction of coach Ben Corley.

Garcia Jr. is planning on majoring in Athletic Training while at Northwestern.

"Mario brings a lot of talent and experience to our midfield," said head coach Dan Swier. "He is a smart player with good vision and passing. We welcome him and look forward to the impact he will make as a student-athlete at Northwestern in the fall."

Andersen is a 6'3" defender who has lettered four times in soccer at Oskaloosa High School. Last season, Oskaloosa finished 6-5 under the direction of head coach Mark Doll. Andersen scored two goals in high school and recorded four assists from the back row. Andersen also lettered three times in cross country and was the runner of the year as a senior at Oskaloosa H.S. Andersen was awared an IAHSAA Academic Achievement Award in cross country in 2006. He is planning on majoring in Exercise Science while at Northwestern and also will be participating in track.

"John will be a great addition to our team," said head coach Dan Swier. "He is a versatile player and has a special passion for the game of soccer. We look forward to his arrival in the fall."
