Northwestern controlled much of the play on Tuesday afternoon versus Sioux Falls but both teams scored twice and the match ended in a 2-2 tie after two overtimes. Northwestern saw its record move to 7-8-2 and their GPAC record move to 5-4-2. Sioux Falls is now 9-4-3 and 7-1-2 in the GPAC.
Northwestern made 22 shots versus 13 from Sioux Falls and both teams had eight shots on goal. Northwestern got a goal from Steven Grand off of a free kick to equalize the match in the 53rd minute. He was assisted by Aaron O'Brien. Twenty minutes later O'Brien scored the go-ahead goal on a penalty kick. Northwestern could not keep Sioux Falls out of the net, however, allowing a game tying goal three minutes later to Francis Fosu. Neither team scored in the last 15 minutes of regulation or the 20 overtime minutes, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Andy Jansen and Grand each had five shots for the Red Raiders, O'Brien had four shots, and Mike Cookson had three shots. O'Brien and Grand led the team with three shots on goal, Jansen and Cookson each had one shot on goal. Ben Schneider made five saves and allowed two goals in 110 minutes. Northwestern had eight corner kicks to Sioux Falls' five.
Northwestern wraps up the regular season on Saturday, November 1st on Korver Field versus Doane. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 and will follow the women's match with Doane.
