Northwestern lost their fourth GPAC match on a rainy Wednesday evening 2-1 in overtime to Dakota Wesleyan. The Red Raiders dominated the match, out-shooting DWU 25-14 and earning twice as many corner kicks, 6-3. Dakota Wesleyan moved to 3-11-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the GPAC while Northwestern fell to 7-8-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the GPAC.
Steven Grand scored in his second consecutive match in the 39th minute to break a scoreless game. Grand's goal was his second on the season. Northwestern had plenty of other scoring opportunities, making 16 first half shots and nine second half shots. Tiger goalkeeper Jordan Werner made seven saves and allowed only the Grand goal to Northwestern. Red Raider goalkeeper Ben Schneider made six saves. Dakota Wesleyan got the equalizer in the 67th minute of play and both teams remained scoreless the rest of regulation. Nearly three minutes into the overtime period, Juan Baltazar broke away from the Northwestern defense and beat Schneider for the golden goal.
Northwestern hopes to rebound against Sioux Falls on Tuesday October 28th versus Sioux Falls in their last regular season road trip.
