Raiders Defeat Hastings 1-0; Advance to First Ever National Tournament

Nov 6, 2007

For the first time in the program's 13-year history, the Northwestern College men's soccer team is going to the NAIA national tournament. The second seeded Red Raiders knocked off top-seed Hastings, 1-0, in the regional final and will advance to the 2007 national tournament. After a scoreless first half of play, junior midfielder Andy Janssen scored the game-winner with 33:00 minutes left to play in the game. The Northwestern defense took over from there as they shut down the Broncos offensive attack, led by GPAC Player-of-the-Year, Nedim Hasanbegovic.

Northwestern, which advances with a 12-7-1 overall record, will be one of 20 teams playing at the 2007 national tournament. This year's event will be played in Olathe, Kan. and will begin with four matches on Nov. 14. The single elimination tournament will conclude on Nov. 20.
