Raiders Drop Double OT Match To Midland

Northwestern dropped to 7-4-1 in the GPAC and 10-7-1 overall on Saturday as they fell 4-3 in double OT versus Midland Lutheran in men's soccer.  Northwestern scored first in the contest when Steven Grand assisted Andy Janssen in the 24th minute.  The Warriors answered back in the 44th minute on a Chris Porter goal to even the score, 1-1, going into halftime.  Danny Zuckweiler scored the first goal of the second half, in the 48th minute to give MLC a 2-1 advantage.  Northwestern would not wait long to get the equalizer, Brad White was able to beat the keeper in the 52nd minute making the score 2-2.  Midland retook the lead at 3-2 on another Zuckweiler goal, this time in the 73rd minute, and again Northwestern would not wait long to get the equalizer, with Blake Wieking scoring three minutes later.  Neither team would find the net in regulation and the first overtime also went scoreless.  In the 107th minute, Chris Porter netted his second shot of the day, this time a golden goal, giving Midland a 4-3 win over the Red Raiders.

Northwestern was led offensively by White, Wieking, and Janssen, who all had one goal.  Grand had the only assist for Northwestern.  The Raiders were out-shot 19-12 and goalkeeper Ben Schneider made 15 saves to Midland keeper Eric Vrba's five.  The Raiders finished the regular season 10-7-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the GPAC.  They will now move to the post season where they will be the #2 seed in the six team NAIA Region III Tournament, the winner advances to the NAIA National Tournament.  The Raiders will play on Monday at 7:00 p.m. in Hastings, Nebr. versus the winner of the Dana/Sioux Falls match on Wednesday, October 31st.
