Northwestern To Defend Region III Ranking vs. Defenders

The Northwestern College Red Raiders and the Dordt College Defenders will compete today in a men's soccer match at 4:00 p.m. in Sioux Center.  Dordt enters the match with a 7-6-2 overall record and a 4-4-2 GPAC record while Northwestern, ranked #1 in Region III, comes in with a 10-5-1 overall and 7-2-1 GPAC record.

Dordt enters the match winning four of their last five matches and Northwestern comes in with a 7-1-1 record in their last nine games.  Dordt is led by Ryan Coon, he has ten goals and six assists, both lead the Defenders.  Dan Koolhaas and Andrew Wubben each have scored four goals for Dordt, who is currently ninth in the GPAC.  Two goalkeepers have seen action for Dordt, Jordan Huisken and Brandon Vander Wel.  Huisken has made 54 saves and has a goals against average of 1.52, while Vander Wel has made 25 saves and has a goals against average of 2.53.

Northwestern is led by this week's GPAC Players of the Week, Brad White and Ben Schneider.  White has scored eight goals and has six assists, for 22 points, tops for the Raiders.  Aaron O'Brien has scored nine goals, to lead the team, Andy Janssen has seven goals, and Blake Wieking has six.  Steven Grand has four assists and O'Brien has two.  Schneider has five GPAC shut-outs this season and has a goals against average of 0.57 while making 55 saves.
