Northwestern Defeats Dakota Wesleyan 3-1

Northwestern scored two goals in the first five minutes of the match in route to a 3-1 victory over Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday evening.  The Raiders moved to 3-1 in GPAC matches and to 6-4 overall while the Tigers fell to 0-5 in the GPAC and 1-7 overall.

Blake Wieking got the scoring started for Northwestern, netting a Ben Karnish pass in the third minute to give NWC the early 1-0 lead.  A quick 96 seconds later Brad White beat the keeper for his first goal of the match and fourth goal of the season.  The Tiger defense kept Northwestern out of the goal for the next 82 minutes of the match.  Goalkeeper Ben Schneider made four saves and allowed one goal, in the 72nd minute, which cut the lead to 2-1.  Brad White put Northwestern up 3-1 in the 86th minute when he slammed home his second goal of the match, giving him five goals and five assists on the season.  Aaron O'Brien, White, and Karnish all had two shots for Northwestern, who had nine as a team.  Andy Janssen, Steven Grand, and Blake Wieking each added a shot for NWC.  The Tigers out-shot Northwestern eleven to nine but Northwestern doubled DWU's corner kicks, ten to five.

Northwestern faces USF in their next match, October 2nd, at the Northwestern Soccer Complex in a men/women doubleheader.  The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
