Northwestern men's soccer fell to Midland Lutheran 2-1 tonight in Orange City. The game was a non-conference game. Northwestern's record dropped to 2-3 overall while Midland improved to 3-0. Northwestern took an early lead when Andy Janssen's shot found the back of the net 13:21 into the game. The Raider lead would not last long, though, as the Warriors' Alejandro Guerrero knocked the ball past Mike Van Engen tying the game at 1-1. Midland took the lead for good when Jake Corum scored on a pass from Johnny Chavez. The Red Raiders had an opportunity to tie the score but Brian Springer's penalty kick was knocked away by Midland's keeper. Mike Van Engen recorded four saves on the night, including a save on a Midland penalty kick keeping Northwestern within striking distance and the score at 2-1. Northwestern will next take the field against Sioux Falls on Saturday September 8, in Sioux Falls, SD.
