The Northwestern Men's Soccer team will take on the Azusa Pacific Men's Soccer team today at 3:00 p.m. CST in Santa Barbara, Cali at Westmont College. Azusa Pacific has been one of the top soccer teams the last three years, finishing in the top 10 in each NAIA final coaches poll, while advancing to the national championship game the last two years. The Cougars, who are led by their top three goal scores from last year, Sven Simon, Steven Lenhart, and Brandon Stirm, have a cumulative record of 54-10-6 over the last three seasons. APU returns 17 players from last year's runner up squad including goalkeeper James Crawford, who allowed a 0.75 goals against average last fall.
Northwestern enters the match with a 2-0 record after beating Waldorf and Jamestown at the Northwestern Bank Classic last weekend in Orange City. Four Raiders earned All-Classic honors for their efforts, they were: Andy Janssen, Blake Wieking, Steven Grand, and Tyler Sytsma. Janssen leads Northwestern in goals scored, netting three shots, and Senior All-American Blake Wieking is two for two in penalty kicks. Steven Grand leads Northwestern with three assists and the goalkeeper combination of Chris Bergst and Mike Van Engen has allowed one goal in the young season. The Red Raiders have outscored their opponents eight to one this season and six to zero in the second half.
